Akira it's an outstanding drummer in every way, but I specially like his use of electronics, he took the Tony Verderosa's concept of "one man band" with triggers and stuff, and went to the next level.
I saw him with Casiopea in the late 80's. I went to the first concert and was so impressed that I returned the next day, and to my surprise, they played the EXACT same concert. And when I say exact I mean everything: same songs, same solos, same outfit, same faces, same moves, same EVERYTHING. They were like robots.
A Rush concert will sound like a free jam compared to this level of planning. I found that approach a little "cold", but I respect them a lot just for being able to pull that off on that level.
Just for the record, I have a couple of Akira's solo CD's and I must confess that I dont't like them at all [img]frown.gif[/img] [img]redface.gif[/img] [img]tongue.gif[/img] .

You're right pedro, they really had everything nailed to the nth degree. I love akiras playing. I have 2 videos of his, plus I went to see him do a clinic. Afterwards, he sat at a table shaking people's hands and giving them a signed poster. I have a signed poster [img]tongue.gif[/img]
I really do think he's got a nice groove. You can hear he takes some gadd grooves as well. But I don't personally think that's such a bad thing since he, well, just plays so good and he's also got his own thing going. Bear in mind this was the 80's and since then akira has carved himself a niche today with all the triggering.
